TREASURE: 31 days of five-minute free writes

All I can think of for “treasure” is Matthew 6:19: “Lay not up treasure on earth, where moth and rust doth destroy.” (Yes, I fully realize I may have garbled several Bible translations in the one I just shared. Yes, I also DID have to look that up. I’m way past the point of being able to spout off particular citations for Bible verses.)

I can’t find it, but I could swear there was a hymn we sang all the time growing up that had this verse in it. Google has failed me on that, though, so I’ll just chat about treasures and/or ancient hymn memories.

I struggle with the fact that our house doesn’t look as put together as most of my friends and relatives’ homes.

On the one hand, maybe I’m doing something great for the world by spending time writing and volunteering instead of hanging pictures and dusting.

However, I have to admit — I’ll just come out and say it — that I envy and have some jealousy over you folks with the amazing houses.

They’re clean and have a plan. WHAT IS THIS WIZARDRY?

On the flip side, my mind, soul and heart STILL feel lighter for all the downsizing we did when we moved here. Seriously, how did we accumulate so much stuff. How, really?

But we’ve been in this house a year and half, and the walls are mostly blank still. I am torn between loving the minimalism and wondering if it looks like we don’t care about our family since we don’t have a family picture wall (we do…
